Editora Contexto was founded in 1987 by Professor Jaime Pinsky with support of a group of fellow professors at leading Brazilian universities. The publishing house aim was to impart the knowledge gathered by specialists. Presenting up-to-date research and accessible language, our firs collections were acclaimed both inside and outside universities and colleges from all over the country.
Since then, our company has matured. We broadened our publishing activities, that now encompasses all Human Sciences (particularly History, Linguistics, Portuguese, Geography, Sociology, Anthropology, Politics and Philosophy), plus Education, Economy, Health, Tourism, Environment, International Relations and Journalism, among others. Besides maintaining a dialogue with universities and academics, we reached a larger audience with releases that are bestsellers also for a general public.
Thanks to our efficient commercial policy, coordinated by the partner Daniel Pinsky, Contexto has been helping the written thoughts of our authors to reverberate throughout the nation.
The results of more than twenty years of serious work are noticeable in the coherence of the editorial line and also in the quality both the text and graphics of our releases.
Our books have received eleven Jabuti awards, two Casa Grande e Senzala, one Clio award and one União Latina for specialized translation. They appear constantly at bibliographies required on exams for public offices and acquisitions lists by libraries and departments of education and culture. Also, they are part of Brazil´s educational curriculum, from elementary school to college. And, increasingly, they can be seen on bookshelves and bedside tables of readers interested in great books.
